About Mother of Peace Orphanage
Mother of Peace Orphanage, located near Johannesburg, has been a sanctuary for children facing unimaginable hardships. Since its founding in 1989, it has provided shelter, love, and education to children impacted by poverty, abuse, and the HIV/AIDS crisis. For over three decades, this haven has been more than just a roof over their heads—it’s been a place to heal, grow, and dream of brighter tomorrows.
However, like many organisations, Mother of Peace faces significant challenges. Limited resources mean they must constantly innovate to meet the needs of their children. That’s where you and I come in.
Why This Cause Matters
Every child deserves a safe place to call home. Yet, for many children at Mother of Peace, life before the orphanage was filled with instability and pain. The orphanage doesn’t just provide the basics—it offers a sense of family, education, and opportunities that many of us take for granted.
This April, my family and I will be visiting the orphanage to support its mission. We’re raising at least £2,000 to fund essential projects that will improve living conditions and provide better opportunities for the children. By contributing, you’ll not only help build infrastructure but also give these children a chance to thrive.
How Your Donation Makes a Difference
- Improved Living Conditions: For just £75, we can purchase five fans to cool classrooms and bedrooms during the sweltering summer months. In addition to comfort, this provides a safer, healthier environment for the children.
- Better Infrastructure: With £200, we’ll connect a gas geyser to the kitchen, offering hot water for cooking and cleaning. This small change will greatly enhance hygiene and daily life.
- A Safe Soccer Field: Football is more than a game for these children—it’s a source of joy, teamwork, and resilience. Levelling the field will ensure they have a safe space to play and grow.
- Sports Equipment: By raising £250, we’ll supply new football boots, soccer balls, and kits. These items will help build confidence and encourage healthy, active lifestyles.
- A Roof for the Verandah: The verandah serves as a gathering place for the children. For £400, we can construct a proper roof, providing shade and protection from rain. This project will be completed by a skilled young man from the orphanage, further supporting local talent development.
